PROSTEP Helps Meyer Group to Build Cruise Ships on a Common Platform

Cruise ships are typically not designed from scratch, but so far there is no systematic reuse of existing design. Now Finish shipyard Meyer Turku starts to create the first of two ships using a common platform developed together with German counterpart Meyer Werft. German PLM specialist PROSTEP helps Meyer Turku to overcome the challenge of working with different CAD tools in hull design and outfitting.

Ship classification (class approval) normally involves the exchange of numerous large-format drawings between a shipyard and a classification society. In addition to this, Meyer Werft in Papenburg will for the first time also be providing the classification company DNV GL with 3D models of a cruise ship. They were developed as part of customer projects.
