About this presentation
Data migration is an essential part of modern business operations, as companies seek to upgrade their technology infrastructure, streamline processes, and leverage the power of data. However, data migration can also be a daunting task, fraught with challenges such as data loss, downtime, and disruption to business operations. In this speech, we will explore how to ensure a smooth and successful data migration process, drawing on real-world examples and practical tips.
Firstly, we will discuss why it is crucial understanding the business objective and goal of the data migration project, as well as predicted scope and timeline. Therefore, PROSTEP introduced the migration discovery workshop before the actual migration project.
Next, we will discuss typical key challenges and risks associated with data migration. These can include technical issues such as data integrity, system compatibility, and scalability, as well as operational issues such as downtime, data loss, and user acceptance. To mitigate these risks, it is important to have a comprehensive plan and strategy in place before starting the actual migration project, as well as the right tools, resources, and expertise.
To illustrate these concepts, we will share a real-world example of a successful data migration project performed using the OpenPDM MIGRATE platform.
In conclusion, data migration is a critical process that can have a significant impact on business operations and outcomes. By understanding the challenges, risks, and best practices involved, and prepare accordingly, companies can ensure a smooth and successful migration process, and unlock the full potential of their data.
