OSRAM Continental is one of the first automotive suppliers in Germany to have moved its entire IT landscape to the cloud. The joint venture, which was founded two years ago and combines the expertise of the two parent companies OSRAM and Continental in the fields of lighting, electronics and software, exchanges product data via PROSTEP’s cloud-based data exchange service.
Together with the Institute of Production Engineering and Machine Tools (IFW) at the University of Hanover and the technology service provider isb, PROSTEP, a PLM consulting and software company, is offering its customers a comprehensive new service for digitalizing their existing production systems and optimizing their production processes.

The construction of a cruise ship is an ambitious, largescale project, during the course of which hundreds of subcontractors have to be coordinated. To make the exchange of CAD data with partners easier and more secure, Meyer Werft introduced the web-based data exchange platform OpenDXM GlobalX and adapted it to the specific requirements of the shipbuilding industry with the help of PROSTEP.

The migration of existing data is one of the major challenges faced when replacing PLM systems. It often leads to a delay in the new solution going live or the failure of the entire project. Many automotive suppliers develop their products using the same CAD systems that their clients use. Sensor manufacturer Sensata Technologies spares itself having to maintain dozens of different CAD systems by having the 3D models and 2D drawings converted by PROSTEP. Ever since they adopted this approach, complaints have been few and far between, even though the expectations of the OEMs are increasing all the time.
The requirements relating to collaboration between partners are becoming increasingly complex. In joint ventures and other long-term partnerships, companies want to exchange large volumes of data at regular intervals in order to synchronize their development statuses.
