OpenPDM provides the basis for many of the successful integration projects that we have implemented in recent years. One example is the Webasto Group, which is not only migrating its CATIA installation to 3DEXPERIENCE but also replacing its heterogeneous PDM landscape company-wide with the PLM suite 4PEP from ILC Solutions. The aim of this ambitious PLM project is to standardize the product development process across all divisions to a greater extent and to integrate software and electronics development more tightly.
As one of the top 100 suppliers to the international automotive industry, the Webasto Group provides big-name OEMs with sunroofs, panorama roofs and convertible roofs, heating systems for cars and trucks, as well as battery systems and charging solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles. The company also has a strong market position in the aftermarket segment.
Webasto has grown rapidly in recent years, thanks in part to company takeovers. This means that the various divisions and locations have very heterogeneous PDM system landscapes and process environments. They hinder the global development and production of product platforms for automotive manufacturers’ different vehicles and brand names, especially when it comes to roof systems.
Webasto decided in favor of the SAP-based software 4PEP as the uniform PLM platform because it makes it possible to integrate development and production processes more tightly. The software vendor’s willingness to meet Webasto’s specific requirements also worked in ILC’s favor. With PROSTEP, the company also had a strong integration partner with a great deal of know-how and standardized connectors to 3DEXPERIENCE and 4PEP. Webasto also intends to use our integration platform OpenPDM as the basis for linking the Rational RTC software, which is used in the electronics sector for configuration and software management.
