Ralf Rentschler

We need partners with a fundamental understanding of AI

Electrics/electronics (E/E) and software are of key importance for the vehicle development process today. In an interview with the PROSTEP newsletter, Ralf Rentschler explains how software can be deployed in vehicles faster and what role AI plays when it comes to speeding up development. Ralf Rentschler is team leader of IT System Integration, E/E Documentation and Validation at Mercedes-Benz AG.

Cross-domain product variant management with OpenCLM

Efficient variant management of smart, connected products is the key to the future success of manufacturing industry. At the same time, the variance in products that include electronics and software places particular demands on variant management as it requires a cross-domain approach. With OpenCLM, PROSTEP offers a solution to this challenge that takes a graph-based approach with integrated data linking.

Abeking and Rasmussen

PROSTEP recommends that Abeking & Rasmussen restructure its PLM landscape

Abeking & Rasmussen is a renowned shipyard that specializes in the construction and refitting of megayachts, special-purpose ships and naval vessels. The company brought PROSTEP on board with the aim of improving collaboration with its engineering partners. The recommendation we made to the executive board was that they first optimize the internal PLM landscape and thus lay the foundation for more efficient collaboration with partners.

Strategic PLM Consulting

Product lifecycle management (PLM) is a crucial factor for a successful digital transformation. This makes the task of introducing a new or modernizing an existing PLM landscape a complex process involving various domains and disciplines. The present White Paper explains the advantages of PROSTEP’s capability-based consulting approach when defining and implementing a forward-looking PLM strategy.

PROSTEP ProPros

PROSTEP’s provides support for proactive production control in the shipbuilding industry

Maritime systems such as cruise ships and frigates comprise several million components, far exceeding the magnitude of other industrial products. This poses particular challenges for shipyards in terms of production planning and control. As part of the ProProS project, PROSTEP has developed a new planning methodology based on a digital twin together with the Lürssen shipyard group and the Machine Tool Laboratory (WZL) at RWTH University in Aachen, with the aim of providing shipyards with better supports. The project, which was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action (BMWK), was brought to a successful close at the end of May.

PROSTEP sponsors TU Darmstadt’s DART Racing Team

The DART Racing Team at TU Darmstadt recently unveiled the pi2023 electric bolide, with which the team will compete in four Formula Student competitions this summer in the categories Electric and Driverless. The PROSTEP logo has been emblazoned on the monocoque of the newly designed vehicle for the first time. The Darmstadt-based PLM consulting and software company is now supporting the Formula Student team of the local TU as a Gold Sponsor. PROSTEP had previously sponsored students by donating powerful computers for performing complex simulation tasks.

ProProS

PROSTEP tool for proactive production control in shipbuilding

The production planning and control of complex ships such as frigates or cruise ships poses great challenges for shipyards. As part of the ProProS project, a new planning methodology based on a digital twin was developed to better support shipyards. The project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, was successfully completed at the end of May.

PROSTEP OCX

PROSTEP Fully Supports OCX-Based Data Exchange in the Shipbuilding Industry

The OCX standard used to exchange ship moulded forms and structures is on its why to industrial practice. Developed in the APPROVE research project, it is now seen as a viable solution by both users from shipyards and classification societies as well as CAx solution providers. PROSTEP is a member of the OCX consortium and helps customers to apply OCX-based data exchange.
