PROSTEP’s provides support for proactive production control in the shipbuilding industry

Maritime systems such as cruise ships and frigates comprise several million components, far exceeding the magnitude of other industrial products. This poses particular challenges for shipyards in terms of production planning and control. As part of the ProProS project, PROSTEP has developed a new planning methodology based on a digital twin together with the Lürssen shipyard group and the Machine Tool Laboratory (WZL) at RWTH University in Aachen, with the aim of providing shipyards with better supports. The project, which was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action (BMWK), was brought to a successful close at the end of May.

PROSTEP sponsors TU Darmstadt’s DART Racing Team

The DART Racing Team at TU Darmstadt recently unveiled the pi2023 electric bolide, with which the team will compete in four Formula Student competitions this summer in the categories Electric and Driverless. The PROSTEP logo has been emblazoned on the monocoque of the newly designed vehicle for the first time. The Darmstadt-based PLM consulting and software company is now supporting the Formula Student team of the local TU as a Gold Sponsor. PROSTEP had previously sponsored students by donating powerful computers for performing complex simulation tasks.

Grateful farewell after 25 years of PROSTEP history

After almost 25 years at the top of the company – first ProSTEP Produktdatentechnologie GmbH and later PROSTEP AG – it’s time for me to say goodbye: goodbye to the company, to my dear colleagues, to our valued partners and customers and to the entire PLM -Community. I am going to retire in the middle of the year and have made it my goal, unlike many of my beloved companions, not to take up an advisory role, but to devote myself entirely to my private interests. 25 years of PROSTEP and more than 40 years of CAD/PLM history are enough, I think.

PROSTEP recently sponsored three major PLM events in the US, using its Mars Rover demonstrator to present complex PLM topics. Events included Dassault Systèmes’ COExperience 2023 in Miami, PTC LiveWorx in Boston and Siemens Realize Live 2023 in Las Vegas.

If proof of the legitimacy of face-to-face events was needed, then the prostep ivip Symposium 2023, at which PROSTEP was represented with a large stand and large staff, provided it. We have seldom had as many good discussions with partners and customers as this year. In addition, we demonstrated our unbroken commitment to the work of the association in numerous presentations.

As part of the ProProS project, a new planning methodology based on a digital twin was developed to better support shipyards. The project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, was successfully completed at the end of May.
