The provider of open PLM and IoT solutions CONTACT Software and the PLM consulting and software house PROSTEP have agreed to cooperate more closely. They want to work together on developing collaboration solutions that can be integrated seamlessly in customers’ CAD and PLM landscapes. The first step involved the development of PROSTEP’s OpenPDM CIM Database connector, which provides support for different collaboration scenarios.
In development alliances, all participants face the challenge of efficiently coordinating their collaboration across various CAx and PLM systems. CONTACT Software and PROSTEP AG are therefore pooling their skills in the areas of IT, processes and methods in order to offer suitable solutions for different collaboration scenarios
PROSTEP and NAPA, the leading maritime software, services and data analysis provider, have successfully completed a joint ship design solution development project for shipbuilder MEYER TURKU. Building on this success, the two companies have signed a formal cooperation agreement to work more closely together in the development of PLM software and CAE interfaces, as well as in the field of PLM consulting.
The Meyer Werft Group, which specializes in the construction of cruise ships, has adopted the platform concept in order to develop and produce a range of ship designs based on a common technical platform. The native CAD conversion performed by PROSTEP was a key factor involved in the reuse of design data from Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, at the MeyerTurku shipyard in Finland.
The PLM consulting and software companies CENIT and PROSTEP are bundling their expertise and products in the fields of system integration, system migration, process automation, and collaboration with the aim of providing their customers with even more powerful solutions. CENIT is contributing its decades of experience with the software platforms from Dassault Systèmes and SAP to the strategic cooperation.
An integration platform for napa steel and aveva marine hull
The end-to-end use of digital information in the shipbuilding industry demands the integration of a large number of different systems, which are used for different tasks and domains. PROSTEP offers a standards-based integration platform for this purpose that facilitates fast connection of all the relevant IT systems. In the future, it will also support the exchange of data between NAPA Steel and AVEVA Marine Hull.
Cruise ships are typically not designed from scratch, but so far there is no systematic reuse of existing design. Now Finish shipyard Meyer Turku starts to create the first of two ships using a common platform developed together with German counterpart Meyer Werft. German PLM specialist PROSTEP helps Meyer Turku to overcome the challenge of working with different CAD tools in hull design and outfitting.
Ship classification (class approval) normally involves the exchange of numerous large-format drawings between a shipyard and a classification society. In addition to this, Meyer Werft in Papenburg will for the first time also be providing the classification company DNV GL with 3D models of a cruise ship. The digital class approval process is based on PROSTEP’s 3D PDF technology.
